Entrants will have the chance to win an 11 day discovery trip to Spain and Portugal

Riyadh: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 6th April 2014: Almarai in collaboration with National Geographic Abu Dhabi has launched the fourth photography competition “National Geographic Moments”. The competition, organised for Arab photographers from different parts of the region, will run from 1st April to 7th May 2014 under the title “A Story of Faces and Arabic Crafts”.

The competition aims to promote and encourage Arab talent and the art of photography through sharing photographs celebrating the vibrant forms that have inspired skilled craftsmen in the region, such as weavers, lantern makers and glass blowers, in a way that reflects the beauty of the Arab world in its many vivid colours as well as highlighting the distinctive skills of its people. Through this competition, Almarai and National Geographic Abu Dhabi hope to encourage photographers to capture the shining colours of the region through the crafts that have shaped the history of its industry.

Commenting on the competition, Mr. Hussam Abdulqader, Head of Corporate Communication and Public Relations at Almarai said: “At Almarai we are keen to constantly support Arab talent due to our belief in the innovative and distinctive capabilities of the Arab people. Today, in collaboration with National Geographic Abu Dhabi for the second consecutive year, it is our pleasure to contribute to the strengthening of innovative standards as well as celebrating our region’s heritage. The “National Geographic Moments” competition presents an excellent opportunity to highlight our rich heritage through distinctive art in addition to creating a platform for Arab talent that we can support through it”.

On his part, Sundararjan, President of the Marketing Division at National Geographic Channel Abu Dhabi said: “National Geographic’s name has become synonymous with inspiring images taken by a group of the best photographers in the world. Previous rounds of the photography competition have proven that the region is replete with outstanding skills in this field having attracted more than 150,000 entrants. This not only confirms the distinguished skills of the region but also the importance of nurturing them. In collaboration with Almarai, we sent last year’s winner on a unique discovery trip to the Galapagos Islands, and this year we look forward to attracting the best capabilities in the Middle East to compete for the prize”.

He added: “We are pleased to collaborate with Almarai, the largest vertically-integrated dairy company in the world, for the second consecutive year on the photography competition that joins us together under a unique vision as well as contributes to a closer partnership”.

The panel of judges will include Mr. Omar Al-Manhali, Editor in Chief of the Arabic National Geographic Magazine; Mr. Hussam Abdulqader, the head of Corporate Communication and Public Relations at Almarai; Laura Tantawi, National Geographic Photographer; and Athrian Sundararjan, President of the Marketing Division at National Geographic Channel Abu Dhabi.
