Leading poultry producers meet in Riyadh
Representatives of major poultry companies in Saudi Arabia held extraordinary meeting in Riyadh to discuss the challenges and difficulties encountering the industry domestically and internationally, and means of addressing them to assure the nationals and officials about the future food security in the country. The meeting was attended by representatives of the ministries of Commerce and Investment; Environment, Water and Agriculture; and Economy and Planning.
The attending participants tackled the changing nature of poultry market and the impact of international and local economy trends on this genre of food industry. They endorsed several recommendations, primarily the formation of a national committee to develop the poultry sector. The attendees also discussed ways of boosting cooperation between poultry growers and relevant government bodies to coordinate efforts to achieve Saudi Vision 2030. This vital food industry is planned to cover 60% of local market demand by 2020, towards higher levels until self-sufficiency. Ziad Al-Otaibi, Almarai’s representative in this meeting, said that the objective of these meetings is to build conceptual understanding between major growers in the Saudi poultry market to achieve the national interest of creating opportunities for sustainable and stable food safety. He added that the companies’ representatives were extremely aware of the economy, and they stroke enlightened balance between their companies’ needs and responsible national feeling.
