On Thursday, December 07, 2023, the Head of Sustainability at Almarai Company, Abdulaziz Albader, participated in an interactive session titled "State of sustainability in the Middle East and Africa," held during the United Nations Climate Change Conference "COP28" hosted in UAE from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City Dubai.
Mr. Abdulaziz spoke about Almarai's approach to carrying out the goals of the business's sustainability plan throughout the meeting, as well as the strategic value of working with research and development facilities to pinpoint and accomplish these goals. He added that Almarai has been able to raise the percentage of power derived from clean energy sources to 10% in management, production, sales, distribution, and logistics; by 2025, the goal is to reach 20%.
Almarai had contributed to spreading a culture of sustainability in the food industry by transforming Almarai's dairy institute into a food industry institute that provided the Kingdom's food sector with qualified human resources to work in the industry, and the Kingdom's food companies were benefiting from it.
It is worth mentioning that Almarai Company launched its "Doing Better Every Day" sustainability strategy plan in 2019, which consists of 25 goals and targets to achieve by 2025. The sustainability strategy is based on three interrelated pillars and 12 core themes, all essential to support the company's contribution to building a more sustainable future.
